Speech for the inauguration of the EUROPAN 18 exhibition - Santa Pola

Ladies and gentlemen, authorities, residents of Santa Pola:

Today is an important day for our municipality. We are gathered here to open an exhibition that is not just a display of architectural and urban planning projects, but an invitation to imagine, dialogue and build the future of our town together.

Santa Pola has been selected to participate in the 18th edition of the European EUROPAN competition, under the theme "The Regenerative City", with the challenge of regenerating the "Varadero-Cantera" area — a historic space between our sea and the mountain, currently unused and with enormous potential to become a vibrant place for meeting, activities and progress.

This competition has brought together young architects and teams from across Europe who have worked on innovative proposals to transform this enclave into a landscape, cultural, sporting and social attraction, respecting our natural environment and enhancing our local identity.

I want to thank each of the participating teams, the authorities who have supported this project, the municipal technicians and, most especially, you, the citizens, for your interest and commitment to the future of Santa Pola.

Today we open this exhibition not only to showcase ideas, but to listen to the community. Because it is you who live, work and feel this place, and your opinions and proposals are essential to building a project that truly represents our collective expectations.

I encourage you to explore each of the proposals, to reflect on what they mean for our quality of life, for our families and for future generations. Participate, ask questions, contribute, share your opinions. Your vision is an essential part of this process.

This project can mark a before and after for Santa Pola: a step forward towards a more sustainable, more inclusive, more vibrant city; a Santa Pola that looks to the future with hope and ambition.
